Is your gutter leaking or failing?
Most gutter faults show themselves in the first heavy downpour, if you know where to look.
Drips at a joint
A steady drip from where two lengths meet means the rubber seal in the union has perished or slipped. It is a small fix if it is caught early.
Water pooling mid-run
Standing water that never drains away shows the fall has gone. A dropped bracket or a bowed length holds water until it overflows or splits.
Gutter pulling off the fascia
A gap opening between the gutter and the board means the brackets have loosened, or the fascia behind has started to rot. Both get worse every winter.
Storm or ladder damage
A cracked length after high winds, a fallen branch or a ladder leant against it will leak at the break. We cut out and replace the damaged section only.
IllustrationHow we fix a leaking gutter
Patrick climbs up and looks at the whole run, not only the drip you have noticed, because one leak often has its cause further along. He photographs the perished seals, the cracked lengths and the brackets that have let go, and sends you the pictures. Then he explains what the repair involves and fixes the price with you. Nothing is agreed until you have seen the problem with your own eyes.
The repair itself is simple work done properly. We clean the run first so the new seals bed onto clean plastic. Perished unions and stop ends are swapped for new ones in the same profile, extra brackets go in where the old spacing was too wide, and the gutter is re-hung to fall towards the outlet. Then we pour water in at the far end and watch it run all the way to the downpipe before we pack up.
- Whole run inspected, not only the leak
- Photos sent to you before anything is agreed
- Perished unions and stop ends replaced
- Extra brackets fitted where spacing was too wide
- Water test at the end of every repair

Gutter repairs on south London houses
Croydon's older gutters take a beating. Cast iron on the Victorian terraces around Thornton Heath and Norbury rusts at the joints, while plastic fitted to 1930s semis back in the 1980s and 1990s has turned brittle and cracks the moment a ladder touches it. The mature street trees in Sanderstead, Shirley and Purley fill gutters fast, and the weight of wet leaves drags brackets loose. Patrick knows these faults well, so he turns up with the right parts for your house and the right profile to match what is already there.

What a gutter repair costs
A gutter repair is priced on what is broken and how easy it is to reach. Resealing one union on a single-storey extension is a quick job, while re-hanging the whole front run on a three-storey house needs more time and more kit. Patrick gives you the price after his inspection, with the photos to back it up, and that price does not change once the work is done.
What sets the price
- Number of leaking joints or cracked lengths
- Height of the gutter and access
- Whether brackets or fascia need replacing
- Gutter profile and matching parts
- Clearing out silt before the repair
Gutter repairs questions
Can a leaking gutter joint be repaired?
Yes. A leaking joint almost always comes down to a perished or slipped rubber seal inside the union, and fitting a new union stops the drip. Patrick cleans the gutter first so the new seal sits on clean plastic, then water-tests it. Where the union itself has cracked, we replace it with a new one in the same profile so it lines up with the rest of the run.
Why is my gutter leaking at the corner?
Corners leak because the angle joint takes the full flow from two runs, so its seals wear out first. A blockage just past the corner makes it worse by backing water up into the joint. We clear the run, replace the angle or its seals and check the fall on both sides, then show you the before and after photos.
Is it worth repairing old cast iron guttering?
It is worth repairing when the iron is still sound and only the joints are leaking. We clean out the joint, reseal it and refit any loose brackets. When the iron has rusted through along the base, a repair will not last, and Patrick will show you the rust in his photos and quote for uPVC in a matching ogee or half round profile instead.
How do you fix a sagging gutter?
A sagging gutter is fixed by re-hanging it on new brackets at the correct spacing and resetting the fall towards the outlet. If the brackets pulled out because the fascia behind is soft, we replace that section of fascia first, otherwise the new brackets have nothing solid to grip. Patrick will point out which it is when he sends you the photos.
Can you repair gutters after storm damage?
Yes. After high winds we cut out the cracked or bent length, fit a new one with fresh unions and check the brackets on either side. If the storm has also shifted tiles or loosened the ridge, Patrick will spot it while he is up there and show you a photo, so you can decide whether to deal with it at the same time.
